Custom Watercolor Painting

Price range: $100.00 through $200.00

Custom watercolor painting by Maine artist and chef Evan Stevens. I have over 10 years of experience in handmade watercolors and a deep passion for food! I can paint anything, not just recipes or food-themed items.

Food Watercolor Paintings

I hold a degree in Visual Arts from Bowdoin College and have been painting professionally since 2017. My paintings range from custom pieces for clients to pieces from my first art show, Still Life in Autumn. As seen at Wolfpeach in Camden, Maine, a collection of ingredients used in my childhood favorite recipe, chocolate chip cookies. My paintings are minimalistic but realistic – not photorealistic! I love the emotive quality of visible brushstrokes and old fashioned blending on paper.

I always paint with Daniel Smith watercolors and white acrylic in my home studio. I’ve sold paintings to several brick and mortar stores in Maine, exhibited in restaurants, and painted custom pieces for articles. I’ve also made custom paintings of Thomas Dambo’s Trolls for the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, created custom pet portraits and landscape paintings, and self published my own poetry and painting book.

My Art Style

My painting portfolio has developed a lot over the years, and I think a lot about why I paint colorful, bold watercolors with white backgrounds. I crave simplicity as much as I see the beauty in complex textures and colors. I’m inspired by Andy Warhol and the pop art movement and always use a plain background to spotlight my recipes (as if memories floating in space). Each painting is evocative of a time and place and a story and evoke a familiar sense of nostalgia and comfort.

I love to combine my paintings with creative writing and photography. I see the small size of my artwork as rebellion against expectations in the art world. The art world rewards paintings that take more time, more paint, and more materials. I have been rejected from many art galleries who don’t view my work as “fine” enough, seeing it as more commercial. But I am proud to sell my pieces as art prints and greeting cards and hope to illustrate cookbooks. I love to catalogue my life through painting, creative writing, and photography. Thank you so much for checking out my work and therefore, my life!
